Corel CMX Viewer
Corel Corporation is one of the first to offer vector-based images on the World Wide Web, as opposed to larger, denser bit-mapped images of GIF and JPG files. This CMX viewer plug-in for Netscape Navigator 2.0 demonstrates both the speed and scope of such images, providing far faster image-display times than possible for current HTML-standard images. The free demonstration module is self-installing, providing a pointer to Corel's CMX demonstration site and views of high-speed image displays. Instructions for using CMX images at your Web site are also included. This version is an early beta release, with additional capability promised for later versions.

Requires Windows 95

Lightning Strike Plug In
This free plug-in viewer for Netscape Navigator 2.x demonstrates a proposed new compression technique for World Wide Web images. Lightning Strike's encoder (a commercial product) produces smaller file sizes than GIF or JPG images, with claimed comparable viewing quality. This is called 'wavelet' transformation, regarded by some as more efficient than the techniques of JPEG (the Joint Photographic Experts Group). You can see examples and read more wavelet information at http://www.infinop.com/html/compression.html. 16-bit and 32-bit versions are included in this self-installing EXE file.
